… not just in Howard’s later years - in ALL his years … especially if you were a refugee or a single mother.

Admittedly, my memory may be faulty, but the anti-refugee policies in particular only gained prominence around 2001, IIRC. The Libs seemed a lot more moderate in the late ’90s.

BTW, Kathleen, I’d be interested to compare our results if you take the test.

Dion said in August 20th, 2008 at 2:06 pm

I’ve taken the test before (I can’t remember my result, hah!) but its a good idea to take it again like you did. I’m doing it now!

Mandatory detention was actually introduced by the Keating government, the mandatory detention policy only gained _prominence_ after 2001 because of September 11 and an influx of refugees from the Middle East.

Tampa was prior to 9/11, however, so immigration was already in public consciousness at the time.

Dion said in August 20th, 2008 at 6:00 pm

oh yes and Tampa …

what my point really was anyway - I know refugees who were sent home to die well before 2001 and I’m in disagreement that Howard’s right agenda only reared its ugly head towards the end of his term(s), particularly in his economic and social policies.

but … we are pretty close to each other on the compass, that has to count! :-)

What were your results? Email me if you want.

Dion said in August 21st, 2008 at 5:22 pm

Haha, your results were caught as spam again. Anyway, as you can see, we’re quite similar WRT the social axis, but I’m quite a bit to the right of you, economically.

oh hhhmmm it obviously went over my thick head that I could have my results as a link!

we are very similar, I have a feeling that most of my friends would sit in a similar place on the axis to us too! I hope that’s not a bad thing!

I think I should just get a new Nigerian name? because I’m such a spammer? ;-) Heh heh

I usually come out centrist in the tests that use that terminology, this is the m ost right I’ve ever been.

As to Obama his foreign policy of US intervention in world affairs to prop up it’s own economy, religious bias and political agenda is NO DIFFERENT than McCain’s. For this reason I fear him as much as I fear McCain. He looks a little prettier, that’s about it.
